It didn’t start here—in calm music and candlelight.

Before Soul Journey was born, it was pain, confusion, and tears in waiting rooms. It was a couple of weeks at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It was scary words like autoimmune disease, fibromyalgia, and chronic fatigue. The common thread? Inflammation.


We (Pepper and Steve) were told our bodies were in a constant state of alarm—and had been for a long time. Stress, survival mode, the pressure to keep pushing—it had all caught up to us. Our bodies weren’t misbehaving. They were crying out for grace.

That moment changed everything.


took a step back. We reexamined not just how we were living, but how we were listening. What does the body whisper before it screams? What helps the nervous system feel safe? What brings the inflammation down—gently, naturally, consistently?

We built Soul Journey around the answers.

Before or after a session with us, here are a few gentle tools to help your body begin to unwind from the inside out.


💨 Breathwork: Regulate the Fire

4-7-8 Breath

  • Inhale through the nose for 4 seconds

  • Hold for 7 seconds

  • Exhale through the mouth for 8 seconds. Repeat 3-5 rounds. This breath slows your heart rate and signals your body to release tension.

🌀 Try this while placing one hand on your chest and one on your belly. Let them rise and fall like waves.


🧘‍♀️ Somatic Shaking: Reset the System

Stress creates static. Your body wants to shake it off—literally.

  • Stand barefoot if you can

  • Shake out your hands, shoulders, hips, and knees like you’re drying them in the sun

  • Let out a little sound: “haaaaa”

  • Laugh if it feels weird—that’s medicine too

This tells your body, “The threat is gone. You’re okay now.”


🌿 Grounding: Come Back to Earth

Inflammation thrives in a disconnected body. Let’s anchor you.

  • Step outside barefoot (yes, seriously!)

  • Put your hands on a tree

  • Or if you’re inside, place both hands over your heart and say, “I’m here. I’m listening.”

Lymphatic Face Massage

  • Use light, slow strokes from the center of your face outward

  • Work from your forehead to your collarbones

  • Gently rub your belly in clockwise circles

  • Breathe deeply and say, “I soften. I receive.”

  • Helps digestion, emotion, and tension release
